Review Why I Love Bodyguards Why I Love#3

Hilton Burke might be one of the most powerful men in the world but he can’t seem to get what he wants the most Every time he sees Cathal McKinley his head of security Hilton can’t help wishing they could be than just employer and employee He even admits to himself that he just might be in love with Cathal even thoug On The FenceI have very strong feelings about this book in both directions Some of the things I hate I m on the fence about hating and ditto for some of the things I loved In a couple of instances there were things I loved and hated at the same time because you know there s a thin line and all that Plus I never EVER seem to be able to do things the easy waySo I ll try to be coherently concise Okay no That never happens so I ll settle for an attempt at linear if you will I hated the title of this book Yes I realize it s a part of the Why I Love series but still It sucks Hilton doesn t love bodyguards plural he loves his bodyguard So I think the series title is ill conceived because it makes the individual book titles awkward Also what is up with the cover One non verbal response coming right up Ugh On the other hand I love the characters names in this one I don t think I have ever read a book where the character was named Cathal before and Hilton s name fit somehow without coming across as pretentious That s an amazing feat because let s face it Hilton could be construed as being pretty stinking pretentious but not once did I think of Paris Hilton or any other Hilton for that matter thank the gods I also enjoyed that Cathal and Hilton were extremely invested in each other despite keeping their distance These guys have known each other and worked closely together for 5 years They were mutually attracted all that time and eually unwilling to act on that attraction They both contributed to the emotional walls and boundaries constructed between them While it wasn t fully realized because there was some judgment there yes and some misconceptions sure I think these guys came pretty close to being unconditionally in love with each other before they ever touched intimately I really liked the fact that instead of using their preconceptions and misjudgments to propel some unnecessary drama the author let it go There are already too many idiotic stubborn miscommunication tropes out there Did I say idiotic and stubborn Good It bears repeating Thankfully Cathal and Hilton were neither It was for those reasons I didn t mind the relatively fast pacing of their dual epiphanies and the turnaround in their relationship dynamic They d known each other long enough that it made sense given the circumstances The niggles Cockblocking I hate it in real life I hate it when it invades my fantasies I hate it when it invades my potential spank material I just hate it Period This is why I generally don t like books that feature children as heavily as this one did I get it I really do This book was after all a card carrying member of the caring for others kids after tragedy and the useless deadbeat sibling theme clubs But my gods Did there absolutely have to be so many of them Did they have to be so front and center in the story Could we not have somehow evaded the rampant cockblocking Ack ThbbftThe effects the children had on Cathal s and Hilton s lives individually and as a couple were very realistic I m a parent so I know what those dusty cooch cuz of the kids days were like That does not however mean I like for kids to invade romance novelserotica reads As a reader and purely as a reader I wish the author would have found some way to give them some dedicated alone time as a couple even if it was just for 24 hours or a couple of days before the progeny took over their lives Talk about a mood killer It was my worst nightmare I mean the plot basically emasculated a hot bodyguard and an eually hot billionaire good guy Cathal and Hilton had five years of pent up unfulfilled sexual tension that they should have been able to act on in an explosive balls emptying hot and smexy fun whimpers kind of way The fact that Cathal and Hilton couldn t have about a week s worth of crazy hot monkey sex everywhere when they finally got their heads on straight about each other literally made me wanna crySo this one gets plot points for realism and believability but loses some major heat cred in the steam arena due to rampant if rationally understandable cockblocking That s why I m on the fence That is after all what the story was about from the beginning but books are my escape I don t need children chasing me into my head too unless it s in small doses This was like a BIG GULP I get it but I don t have to like it Or condone it Or want it to continue Like ever That said I would recommend this book It was sweet there was decent development as it pertained to the emotional aspects of the MCs relationship and while they weren t earth shattering the sex scenes were adeuate I won t beat a dead horse and reiterate how they could have been better I enjoyed it but there won t be any backtracking for me and probably no further installments of this series either I ve read better I gave it 35 stars on Gay Book Reviews but since GR doesn t do halfsies I gave it 4 stars here because aside from my personal objections to aspects of the story it was a good read and didn t deserve a smackdown So I rounded up H they’ve never even slept togetherCathal McKinley accepts how much he wants his boss Hilton Burke but he’s pretty sure there’s no way Hilton will want to date him They come from two different worlds And now having to return to Sunburst Montana to deal with family problems Cathal knows there’s no chance for the t I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads This is part of a series with linked titles but reads well as a standalone too This romance involves two very independent intelligent and straight forward men At least they are that in all except their deep and long standing attraction for each other They have been avoiding all closeness and familiarity for five years Suddenly due to Cathal having to return to his hometown to help his sick father and they can t get wait to admit their feelings to each other Maybe this is because for the first time ever Cathal actually needs something that Hilton can provide or whether Cathal s demeanour indicates it would be accepted isn t really clear Whatever the reason they then fall headlong into domesticity with a side serving of passion when there is a moment I found I was trying to justify how they could undergo such a dramatic change of pace so uickly and decided that maybe as older guys they realised that this was the time to settle down but it was a bit stilted for me Even with the unexpected level of understanding from Cathal s father and the discovery of who caused Hilton s parents air crash it was precipitous And whilst Hilton s money could solve anything I am not sure that a bodyguard can really work from such a distance effectively but it gave us the chance to watch the family traumas be resolved A gritty than fairytale romance with a lot of side issues which muddy the water but result in an HEA for the whole McKinley Burke clan
