    This is a very fine young adult novel that whisks us back to what for most of us is a faraway place isolated and segregated small town Texas in the early 50s where the world is just beginning to reach in by radio and the slow march of progress marked most obviously by Jackie Robinson's ascendancy with the Brooklyn Dodgers is beginning to be felt Matlock's story puts you in the heart and mind of a young boy and aspirin
